Ask Stripe to enable MOTO for typed-in cards
Updated 13 October 2026
When you type a card into Charge Now, the card's bank may ask for 3D Secure verification. That needs the cardholder, so a phone booking or a channel virtual card (Agoda and similar) can't complete it. MOTO (mail order / telephone order) tells the bank no cardholder is present. Stripe switches it on for your Stripe account when you ask.
Steps
Click your name at the bottom of the sidebar, then Settings. Under Integrations, open Payment Processors and click your Stripe processor.

Under Keyed card payments, read the MOTO line: enabled ✓, not enabled, couldn't check or not checked yet.
Click Check MOTO to ask Stripe now.
If it says not enabled, find Ask Stripe to enable MOTO for typed-in cards and click Copy request.
In your Stripe Dashboard, open Help → Contact support and paste the request.
If Stripe asks for its PCI questionnaire first, complete it in your Stripe Dashboard (see Good to know), then reply to Stripe.
Once Stripe confirms, click Check MOTO again. It should say enabled ✓.
Good to know
- Nothing else changes in Rentibly once MOTO is on. Charge Now always tries MOTO on a typed-in card, so the next one uses it automatically.
- Check MOTO charges nothing and creates nothing in Stripe. Stripe rejects the test request on purpose, so it may show as one failed request in your Stripe Dashboard's developer logs.
- The MOTO line also says when it was last checked, and whether that came from a check or from a real card charge. Rentibly checks again when you click Re-verify, and each typed-in card charge updates it.
- couldn't check means Stripe gave no clear answer. The line shows what Stripe said. It never counts as enabled.
- Keyed card payments only shows on a processor that is switched on.
- The copied request asks for MOTO on your Stripe account, in both live and test mode. Ask for it even if you connected through Stripe Connect.
- If a typed-in card still needs 3D Secure, Charge Now tells you. Send the guest a payment link instead.
- Only type in cards for real phone or mail orders and channel virtual cards, where no cardholder is present. A charge without 3D Secure has no fraud-liability shift: a chargeback comes back to your account.
- PCI questionnaire: when Stripe asks how you take cards: guests pay on Rentibly's payment page in Stripe's secure card fields, and staff type cards into the same Stripe fields in Charge Now. Card numbers go straight to Stripe and never reach Rentibly.
- Your PCI answers are your business's own. If you're unsure which answer applies, ask Stripe support or a PCI assessor. Rentibly can't complete or sign the questionnaire for you.
- You need the Settings permission set to Access to check MOTO.
